Adelaide Chiropractor

When people in Adelaide have a health problem of any kind, it is not unusual to consult your local medial doctor or GP for help and advice.

When the problem you are seeing them for seems to be musculoskeletal in nature, the medical treatment is usually a recommendation of pain relief or anti inflammatory medication. While this can provide some symptomatic relief, it often doesn’t address any of the structural or functional injuries which are the reasons why the problem is there in the first place. As a result, people may find the success of these treatment approaches to be limited.

Additionally, many patients with these conditions, like back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatic pain etc, already realise that there is an underlying functional problem that is contributing to their condition, and want a more comprehensive investigation and treatment than they might expect to get from just taking anti inflammatories. These patients will often request that their GP refer them to see someone who is skilled and experienced in dealing with these conditions at a higher level.

If the GP suspects that a surgical intervention is necessary, then they may refer to patient to a specialist. However, invasive interventions like surgery aren’t always necessary or even desirable in many cases of musculoskeletal conditions. These cases are often better dealt with in a more conservative environment, such as a chiropractor in Adelaide.

At Walkerville Chiropractic, we have received referrals from over 20 different medical clinics around Adelaide in 2019 alone. We are pleased to be a chiropractor Adelaide GP’s trust to send their patients to for help with their musculoskeletal conditions.

It is not necessary to have a medical referral to see a chiropractor, because chiropractors are primary contact practitioners, and any patient is welcome to come to our chiropractic clinics directly.

However, the government (through the Medicare system) does have a program that allows patients with chronic injuries to have up to 5 visits to a chiropractor per calendar year, and access to this program is coordinated via your Adelaide GP. Your chiropractor will communicate with your GP regarding your condition and your progress, which is why this scheme is often referred to as a “Team Care Arrangement”.

If you have a condition such as back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatic pain, hip pain etc, and you suspect that there may be an underlying functional problem contributing to it, contact your Chiropractor here in Walkerville directly, or speak to your GP regarding a referral to a trusted Adelaide Chiropractor.
