How Chiropractic Can Assist Dysmenorrhea

Period pain is a very common condition and is characterized by painful menstrual cramps. The pain comes from pain causing chemicals in the body called prostaglandins.

Over the 115 years of chiropractic, chiropractors have noticed that patients reported a decrease in their period pain symptoms while having chiropractic care.

A number of mechanisms have been put forward as to how spinal adjustments can affect these symptoms. These include affecting the relationship between movement of spinal vertebrae and the nerve supply to the pelvic blood vessels, or a referred pain syndrome from musculoskeletal structures which share a common nerve supply.

These theories are still being investigated, and conclusive evidence hasn’t yet been discovered as to why period pain sufferers seem to improve with chiropractic care.

Many people turn to medication to deal with period pain, while some prefer drug free methods like acupuncture or chiropractic care.
