Exercise

Adelaide chiropractors have often stated that movement exercise is a key contributor to achieving and maintaining overall health and wellbeing. Along with a huge range of physical benefits it can also acts a stress release, boost energy levels and the immune system and helps improve mental health. But despite the numerous benefits, only 40 per cent of people exercise on a regular basis and many of us don’t stick to programs for more than a few weeks or months. Below are a few tips to enjoy exercise and to devise a plan that works well for you and your needs. Enjoying Exercise There is a general misconception that exercise needs to be strenuous in order for you to feel the benefits. However, an elevated heart rate, constant over a period of time, should be enough to improve fitness and energy levels; even a walk around the block once a day... [Read more...]

Daily Stretches for the Office

Following on from our recent article about stretches appropriate for the workplace, we’ve put together a selection of stretches suitable for an office environment. Whilst many of the stretches overlap, and can be performed in any sort of environment, the following exercises are designed for those who spend long hours sitting at a desk performing repetitive tasks. As with all stretches, they should be done within comfortable limits and if pain or discomfort occurs, should be discontinued. If you have any questions or queries, do not hesitate to ask for advice or recommendations from the chiropractors here at Walkerville Chiropractic. Acupuncture and Pain Relief

Acupuncture has a development history spanning thousands of years, as part of an integrated system of health care known as Traditional Chinese Medicine. The methods and beliefs incorporated in the treatments are some of the oldest in the world. Today, the practice of acupuncture is an increasingly popular form of health care and treatment; one that sees many parallels with the field of chiropractic and is used by one of our chiropractors here at Walkerville Chiropractic. Similar to the chiropractic approach health care, the practice of acupuncture seeks to find a natural equilibrium in the body that promotes healthy and normal function and focuses as much on the prevention on disease or illness as it does on its treatment. Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points around the body. According to Eastern... [Read more...]

Healthy Weight Week

This time of the year sees thousands of Australian men and women undertaking a whole host of fad diets to shift unwanted Christmas kilos. These practices are not only unhealthy and dangerous, but they could be doing your body more bad than good. According to the Dieticians Association of Australia, the number of ‘fad’ diets popularised in society are endless, but the best approach is a diet that is sustainable and flexible as it is most likely to result in long-term weight-loss. A US study, which has been tracking the success of more than 5,000 people in losing weight over the past 16 years has revealed short-term, quick-fix diets are the least effective in weight maintenance. The study examined those who had lost at least 13kg and kept it off for more than 12 months and revealed traits of successful weight loss include reduced fat... [Read more...]

Health Prevention Agency

Today is an exciting day. Just days after writing my last article, I did a quick google search on topical news items relating to health. I was absolutely astounded to discover that the government and federal opposition are actually agreeing with each other over something important and useful. Federal health minister Nicola Roxon has introduced the “National Preventative Health Agency Bill 2010” which aims to establish an agency focused solely on preventative health care measures. Ms Roxon has appealed to opposition leader Mr Tony Abbott, who is known for being extremely proactive about his own health, to support the initiative. Opposition parliamentary secretary for primary health care Mr Andrew Southcott has indicated that the opposition will support the legislation with some improvements. After decades of focusing almost exclusively... [Read more...]
